Research Focus:
Clint Smith, PhD, MEnvs is a research biologist in GRL’s Data and Signatures Analysis Branch. Smith’s geospatial distributed sensing research incorporates bio-labeling for signature capture and novel mapping applications, geo-enabled electro-optical sensors, and spectral signature libraries. He is also the founder and principal investigator of an ERDC satellite laboratory at George Mason University in Manassas, Virginia. This laboratory is devoted to the study of geospatial sensing and photonic imaging of materials and distributed sensing data collection that serve as the core constituents of geospatially networked terrestrial sensors.
I have always been fascinated with watersheds impacts to the environment and water quality impacts for people. The sustainment of water and adapting geoenabled solutions in an ever changing environment intrigues me. I enjoy working with teams to learn, and discover new ways to investigate the various aspects of what is in global watersheds, whether it is ground water, source waters of rivers and lakes, or our coastal oceans. It is rewarding to see how the teams I have worked with have developed novel and transitional technology for the Soldier and our nation.
