Title: Research Civil Engineer
Affiliated Lab: Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL)
Research Focus:
As a research civil engineer in ERDC’s Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL), Genevieve Pezzola, PhD is a subject matter expert in the areas of force protection, protective structures design, and blast and ballistic threat mitigation. While working to obtain her PhD in 2016, Pezzola was granted a SMART (Science, Mathematics & Research) fellowship from the Department of Defense, which enabled her to partner with ERDC’s GSL to conduct research. Pezzola accepted a position working full-time with the GSL in 2018. Her skill and expertise in the development of lightweight modular protective structures such as the Expedient Retrofit for Existing Buildings (EREB) provide unprecedented protection from potentially lethal blast and fragmentation events both at home and abroad.
Research conducted at ERDC directly contributes to the safety of our country and our soldiers, and that is research that I want to be a part of.
